The town of Mintabie is located in South Australia, 300km north of Coober Pedy, once the largest opal producer in the 1980s but in 2018 the State Government declared that the area be handed back to its traditional Aboriginal council.

Only a small amount of Opal is found these days making Mintabie Opal rare and precious.
